The mission of RISE Infrastructure Materials Laboratory is to develop novel construction materials for next generation infrastructure that withstand deterioration related to extreme loading, environmental conditions, and multi-hazards. The general research topics include the following:

  • Multi-scale concrete material design, modeling, and characterization

  • Alternative and supplementary cementitious materials with low carbon footprint

  • Multifunctional fiber-reinforced cementitious/ceramic composites for smart infrastructure systems

  • Energy storage and large scale carbon sequestration

  • Machine learning and additive manufacturing

Our research combines materials science, mechanics and structural engineering. Learn about our projects from nano-engineered cementitious materials to industrial scale structures.

Our research facility is equipped with state-of-the art instruments for advanced characterization of infrastructure materials and for industrial and academic research
